Cruising

Cruising is extremely popular with our members. From May through Halloween, HHSA members organize cruises nearly every weekend. Some are preplanned destination cruises to some of the most beautiful spots on the Chesapeake: St. Michaels, Oxford, Annapolis, LaTrappe Creek, the Wye River and countless others. Other cruises are organized as "Best Place to Sail" events with the destination decided the morning of departure to take advantage of the winds. See the HHSA Calendar for the entire cruising schedule and for what is scheduled this month.
Some Cruise Themes

We encourage cruise participants to register for planned cruises, though registration is not required for those cruises not involving advance dinner reservations or the like.
Pick Up Cruises
When no cruise is officially scheduled and the weather cooperates, interested cruisers gather at the HHSA bulletin board outside the office at Herrington Harbour South at 9:00 am on Saturday to organize pick-up cruises. It is more likely than not that a pick-up cruise will occur, usually preceeded by an email to the cruising list announcing it a day or two before. The list is also used for planning cruises and designating anchorages in advance - both for planned and pick-up cruises.
Long Cruises
Each season, HHSA organizes one or more seven to ten-day long cruises. Destinations have included most of the Bay as well as destinations beyond, such as Long Island Sound. Occasionally, members have organized charters in more distant locations, including the Caribbean, the Bahamas, the Mediterranean and the Pacific Northwest. This year (2010) a Round-DelMarVa-Cruise is planned for June 19th. For more information, see the Round Delmarva 2010 Web-page.

Cruising the ICW & Bahamas
Cruising with HHSA offers unparalleled enjoyment and security. Cruise captains monitor their cruise fleets via VHF radio. HHSA members have aided each other in towing, emergency repair and even emergency medical assistance. Add fabulous food, laughter, too many sailing stories and peaceful anchorages with a sky full of stars and it doesn't get any better than this.
