HHSA Mission Statement

Who We Are
HHSA is a volunteer-led group of sailing enthusiasts focused on growing and fostering a strong sailing community in the Chesapeake Bay area through cruising, racing, education, and social programs. We welcome people of all levels of experience, regardless of gender, ethnicity, race, disability, identity, sexual orientation, age, faith or expression, to join us in connecting, supporting, learning, and enjoying the water together.
What we do
HHSA members volunteer to organize and host the following:
-
Cruising - We coordinate member-led weekend and longer cruises to explore the Bay, have fun rafting up and enjoying the water at different anchorages with fellow members. For more information, go to: Cruising - Herrington Harbour Sailing Association
-
Education - We run activities designed to help our members get involved, to learn about boat maintenance, sailing skills and the maritime industry. The best education is on the water though, so we work to connect people with others that need crew to get as many people on the water as possible!
-
Social - We host social events to enable our members to network and find friends. This includes regular Dock Hops where members hang out, bring food or beverage to share, and get to know each other! The year culminates with our annual Gala, celebrating the achievements of our members. For more information, go to: Social - Herrington Harbour Sailing Association
We hope that you will foster friendships, learn from one another, and we can unite to support each other and the broader sailing community through our shared love of sailing and being on the water.
Guiding Principles
-
We encourage our community to be kind and brave. Regardless of skill level, we all have something to learn and in turn we all have something to teach. We endeavor to show up with humility and encouragement for all levels. Even the saltiest among us was a novice once! We empower our members to build skills and increase confidence by being resources for one another.
-
We keep safety front and center. We sail safely, keeping our people and boats from harm, and we run events where all our members and guests feel safe and included. We believe that every individual engaged in sailing deserves a positive and enjoyable experience within a secure environment. Harassment or unsportsmanlike behavior of any kind is never tolerated.
